Outdoor areas have begun to resemble the living room in a variety of new ways. Advances in weather-resistant technologies, including new resins and fabric coatings, have now made it possible to swap a loveseat for the garden bench, a coffee table for the umbrella table or even an elegant dining set for that old picnic table. From there today's trends get even more lavish, with the addition of an outdoor chandelier and candle sconces hung from tree branches. A fire pit or chimnea will add a cozy focal point to your conversation area.

Villa Garden

If you can’t spend your evenings sipping a glass of Sangiovese while gazing across the golden suede hills of Tuscany, Falcon can make it possible to bring something of the Italian villa garden to your very own home. Since the early Renaissance, the Italian garden has been know for its symmetrical designs and sensual profusion of trees, flowers, statuary and fountains. While it may be a challenge to recreate in a small space, Falcon's old world style designs incorporate a few key elements that can help you achieve some of its character. Here are some design ideas you may wish to consider for your Tuscan Retreat: anchor your four corners with potted cypress or topiaries; fill terracotta planters with flowers (and buy them in twos for a balanced symmetry) or perhaps you may wish to plant floral climbers on a trellis and place a stone or terracotta fountain against a wall or hedge. Gargoyles or other whimsical or classical statuary add to the look (but don’t go overboard or it’ll look more Disneyesque than Orvieto). Seating can include garden benches along the perimeter, and a large wooden or wrought iron table and chairs, placed centrally will provide the perfect stage for a hearty meal al fresco.

Asian Inspiration

Traditional Asian gardens are renowned for artfully combining plantings, stones and water to create a natural, tranquil and contemplative atmosphere. Falcon can easily adapt these elements to the design of your own outdoor space. For your greenery, try bamboo and evergreens in glazed ceramic planters. Stone can be used as an accent. You can add a rockery, pave your terrace with flagstone or slate, or even arrange several slabs of granite in a corner of your deck or patio. A variety of garden décor in stone or faux stone is also an option. Falcon can help you select the perfect water feature complete with a garden bridge. Installing a simple fountain is a much less expensive solution for your deck or patio.

A Parisian bistro offers simple, hearty fare in an unpretentious, informal setting. Typically, this type of outdoor furniture reflects that aesthetic, but today more than ever before you have a wider variety of styles to select from. Designs can range from gracefully modern to the lavishly detailed and ornate creations characteristic of the belle époque, while materials can be anything from bentwood to wrought iron.
